I would definitely agree with Guest Reviewer Mo's write-up that this is the weakest of all the AF books, particularly after 'The Lost Colony', which was just brilliant. It does feel that Colfer is re-visiting old stuff and rehashing it, although there is a good twist at the end. Having said this, it was still a good read, and fans of the AF series will like it.

...And maybe the best one at that too. Colfer's writing is always a joy to read, his innovative sci-fi/fantasy blend presenting a fantastic backdrop for amazing characters. Artemis and Holly as a duo have been the true stars of the show since i read the first book years ago and i'm so glad to see the series is still going strong in this book. First of all let me say that this book saved me from a painfully long wait at the dealership where I took my wife's minivan for service. I expected this to take about an hour or so, and that is what I was told when I got there. I should know by now not to trust these estimates, since I ended up being there for three hours. It was the perfect amount of time to finish this book though, which I had started that morning at home. Colfer helped me feel as if the three hours were only one, and that is really something to applaud!

Although I didn't buy this book off of Amazon, I thought I'd review it anyway. I'll just start off by saying that if you're expecting another Artemis Fowl, this isn't it. That's not to say this isn't at least as good as the AF books but in my humble opinion it's a lot darker and older. The humour's still there though and I personally thought it was great. It's swashbuckilng, daring, and somehow Colfer makes it all seem believable. Buy It Now!!!

Superb. The story translates VERY well, and the guile and craft is maintained expertly.

Read it, whether you've read the original book or not.

I read graphic novels and this one stand out as a great one, good story and, for once, fine art, not any sketchy rubbish!

This book is shorter than the rest for a reason. This book was writen for World Book Day 2004. It cost British school children £1 with profits to charity, I think. It is meant to be a short story to encourage children to read. It would have been writen for free and all World Book Day's books are about this length.
