I bought this book for my son who was very interested in letters and reading but was not really learning to read in nursery - i must say it's really really good. I home-school my 3 children and have found the whole Jolly Phonics approach and series of books and aids, to be invaluable. The grammar books build naturally and smoothly on from the the Phonics handbook, with the same cheerful, fun, graspable logic. Life is made, not just easier and stress-free for your child but easier and stress-free for the parents too. Love it. Will be sticking with Jolly Phonics all through my children's early years.

I would happily recommend this set of books for even the youngest of children.

They are lovely and sturdy, with inset letter(s) on each page for your child to put their finger in and trace the shape, but most importantly they don't seem like an "educational" book to children! Even without focusing on the phonics element to the books, the pages are great fun to look at just for the pictures - there are recurring characters (eg a snake) which can be searched for on each page, and 2-4 pages at the rear ... It must be said that they are very useful: not only am I able to test his blending skills, but he absolutely loves them. He is forever asking to read "those lift the flap books".

The level of difficulty seems to be about right, though perhaps one more book without digraphs would have been useful.
