I grew up on Asterix, reading tattered, well-thumbed editions from the local library, so when I saw these were being reissued in new editions I was curious whether I would still enjoy them as much as I did when I was a child. Needless to say I did and time has not aged these great tales!

Not the best written story, it's not very inventive and feels quite loose, but is still very satirical, with plenty of references to our very different customs. Our Gallic heroes seem to get quite cross after a while with their cousins from across the water, for being so...well, English! A pacy adventure through Ancient Britain, complete with warm beer and strange customs. Very popular here, for obvious reasons, but I'm not sure if this is even in my top ten.

First I need to start off by saying that I am a big fan of the Asterix series. And I found these stories very entertaining. Though first published in English in 2003. This set of stories was originally published in French in 1996. And was a huge success.

I think this book is for 8+ year olds because there are very hard words to read and understand.

Good, but not one of the best, in my mind. A rather small story gets our heroes a bit hemmed in. I agree the satire is good, and way too subtle and worldly for ten year olds, that's why these books were always as much for the parents as they were the kids.

A beautifully drawn and written comic adventure, setting the scene for much of what was to come in this great series. This book is one of the more pleasing in everything it has: A enchanting adventure, a lovely pastoral setting, (actually urban: Ancient Paris known as Lutetia in Roman times, but it is very verdant) and lovely characterisation. I wish I was a kid again, waiting for this present to be handed to me. Or I suppose I could just re-read it: Yes, if your child is the type, this collection of books will become a valued possession.

If I was being critical I'd have to say this adventure is quite clearly the best of all the Asterix books. A tax collector is nobbled before he can get his hands on the money a greedy governor has been holding back from Rome. Cue the heroes Asterix and Obelix and Dogmatix on a classic adventure to the Alps, brilliantly drawn and written with warm friendly satire.
It is very nearly my own favourite, it is so good, but is just pipped by the ebullient Asterix and The Big Fight, for me. But I do realise Switzerland is better. This is a must for your children, ... Read More:

Obelix drinks the magic potion, and turns into stone. The druid tries to make an antidote, which instead turns Obelix into a child. He then has to go to Atlantis in hope of finding a cure. Meanwhile, a ship full of mutineers visit the village.

This is one of the newest Asterix adventures. Uderzo has created some pretty good adventures even after Goschinny's death, and here is another interesting premise and it almost works.
