I am a teacher who has long been looking for a simplified version of the Egyptian myths. This book fits the bill exactly! I loved the questions and extra info at the end of each story and the answers at the back!! This is a great book for me to use with the children or for Key Stage 2 children to read by themselves. Little touches, such as the hieroglyphic name plate and the animated scribe, make it very child-friendly. Truly excellent value for money!!

A beautifully written and worthy sequel to Ingo. Both my children (ages 14 and 10) enjoyed this and I read 'Ingo' and 'The Tide Knot' on their recommendation. I now see what the seduction is. It's heartening to see such good, stimulating writing for children out there. I can't remember reading anywhere such sensual descriptions of the sea, or the sea shore in a children's book. You can almost smell the Cornish coast in this writing. Wonderful!

This is the first Marcus Sedgwick book i have read and if all his books are as good as this one i can see me buying and reading everything else he writes.

The book opens with a mysterious letter written by the father of one of the main characters, Marko. This leads him to travel to Venice where he meets Sorrel and together they set out to try and save both their fathers. One of Marcia Wiliams' best titles. This is a retelling of a dozen of the Arthurian legends, done with energy and verve. This is a wonderfully illustrated book containing facinating stories, some of which are familar, others not. My four year old daughter choose this book on a recent trip to the library and it has become a favourite story book, so much so that she has asked for her own copy for Christmas. Once she is able to read it herself I am sure it provide her with a lifetime of enjoyment.

This is not quite the best of Marcia Williams's books, but it's still an attractive, humorous treatment of eight myths with the inimitable Williams strip-cartoon providing the backdrop. The stories move along by means of narrative and speech-bubble type dialogue.

This is an excellent first introduction to stories that form part of the world's cultural store of knowledge and that parents and young children can share and have fun with.

My 7 year old loves this book. I read him a chapter every evening. Rosemary Sutcliffe's language is so beautiful its a pleasure to read it to him. The illustrations match the mystery of the story.

This book led us on to the Odyssey (The Wanderings of Odysseus) and the Aeneid (In search of a Homeland) by the same publishers. But this is the favourite. We're now on our second reading - I daresay not the last.
