It really is a classic that I think will survive a long time. It's not challanging and very sweet and on the whole very enjoyable.
I read it in one evening when I when I had the flu in bed and it kept me entertained so much that I finished it! Every girl should read it and even teenage girls like me!

in fact, two stories are interwoven until the two become one. The one story is told by Link, a boy who becomes homeless, the other is told by Shelter, a serial killer...
The book is a real page turner and really draws you in. I couldn't put it down and had to find out what was happing to these children who mysteriously disappear, and what would happen to Link. I had bought the first ten, and had the last 3 for christmas. I finished the three in about 2 weeks. The series had me gripped from the start, from the weird disguises of Count Olaf to the pointless descriptions and totally off the point paragraphs written by the extremely talented Lemony Snicket. An excellent series that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Probably the next-to-last things you would like to read about are a harpoon gun, a rooftop sunbathing salon, two mysterious initials, three unidentified triplets, a notorious villain, and an unsavoury curry and the last thing you would want to do is experience these things. Since you do not want to know how it feels, you can feel sorry for the three children, the Baudelaire orphans, in the book which I am reviewing, who do know how it feels. Along with, it seems, the majority of the UK, my children loved all the Richard Scarry books, especially "What do people do all day?". I still have our copies (from the 70's) in the book case but will buy the next generation (the grandchildren) new copies as I can't bear to part with them. I haven't met a child yet who doesn't love this book.
The stories are informative and the illustrations delightful. A real must have book.
