Claire has a cut on her knee and she sets off home to tell her mum all about it but on the way she meets many friends and tells them weird and wonderful stories about how she came to have a bad knee including a crocodile attack, being kidnapped by a witch and a misdemeanour with a gorilla. It's a beautifully-illustrated, inspiring tale that will wet a child's imagination. A real joy to read.

The things we (myself and my son) love about this book are the pictures. Don't get me wrong, the storyline is perfectly ok, but the pictures have all sorts of interest in them that you can investigate with you child, such as why there are two ears halfway up a house wall? The same picture has a little face at the top of a drain pipe, which is a great idea and part of the plan (I think) to really pad out the experience of reading a book for a young child. Lynley Dodd is one of my children's favourite authors. It is great that we no longer have to go 'down under' to be able to buy them.
This is almost as good as the original Hairy MacClarey from Donaldson's Dairy. You'll admire the poetry of the words, the rhythmn of the sentences, and the alliteration of the words.

We bought this book, published in 1971, when our 30 year-old was just 3 and it proved an enduring favourite for the whole family. It is one of the few books which our children insisted that we kept, even now, and one which we still catch them smiling at in their postgraduate gainfully employed maturity. The DVD might be good but little children deserve the fun of reading the book first with a grown-up to help them notice the delightful humour in the drawings. Don't hesitate - just buy it and enjoy it!

the book gets off to a good start with the title "action" but then moves on to more spurious ones such as "rattle and shake" (some rattles - need to have them to hand), "push the blocks" (great if you've set up the blocks ready) and "hold on tight" (with a picture of a baby holding an adult's hand - boring!). Ok these are actions that babies can do, but only when they want to, they'd be too little to do any following the song.

The original Pants is one of my kids favourite books and never fails to get a laugh. This is more of the same, and no worse for it. The illustrations by the superb Nick Sharratt, are fantastic and the cheeky rhymes by Giles Andreae are funny, memorable and just rude enough to make small children very happy indeed. We love it.
