I can't believe you can still get this amazing book! Whilst I'm not a complete fan of Ms Blyton, this and it's sequel 'The Wishing Chair Again' are in my top 10 of favourite books from my childhood - and that's a lot of books! It has all the classic ingredients - magic, fantasy, almost-but-not-quite too good to be true children, naughty magical folk such as elves, a mad witch and amazing places to visit! I have 4 children who each studied at 4 different schools during their nursery years. Oxford Reading Tree (for 2 children) proved to work extremely well, Jolly Phonics (for 0ther 2) did not so well, so with the 2 it didnt work well with I reverted back to ORT at home.

This is a great book, my daughter [age 10] got this for Christmas and has spent hours making up different lettering, whats more her cousin [age 13]saw it and has spent hours with it and has begged me to get her one for at home. The book is full of fancy letter stencils with lots of fantastic ways to colour them in. It has doo daa's which you add to the letters like flower or stars and many others plus the end of the stencils have zig zags and curves to use to make borders around the letters.

I absolutely loved these books when I was a child, so when I had a baby daughter I couldn`t wait to buy them for her. She`s a bit too young to understand what I`m reading to her at the moment so I can`t tell you if she enjoys the stories but when I did read it to her I was a tiny bit disappointed that it didn`t seem quite as good as I remembered, but then things never do, do they! My son got a set of these books bought for his birthday and this is his absolute favourite. He is only 2 but he joins in with the actions and certain areas of the book are a highlight for him (where the cat jumps out) I can now read this book without looking after reading it so many times.

I would definitley recommend this for all children - a must have for your library at home!

My 6 month old loves this book. I think its the rhythm that keeps him so amused.

This book teaches the abc in a fun rhyming way that keeps both parent and baby interested to the end. (Better than the boring 'A is for Apple' stuff)
Also, the simple but bright pictures are perfect for young ones.

Its a shame it was written for the American audience because the end doesn't rhyme (We pronounce Z as 'Zed' not 'Zee') however, don't let this put you off its still brilliant!!!!

We got the board book version of this book out of the library for our nearly two year old, and she loves it! The illustrations are fun and colourful, and the story is simple with easy rhymes and repetition. A perfect book to read aloud at the end of the day.

By the time I was 10 years old and a friend gave me this (first) Blyton book, I already had read hundreds of Swedish, American, French and German childrens books, good ones and boring ones, but "Five on a Trasure Island" was totally different.
I had read "Robinson Crusoe" before, but never had read anything about secret tunnels or small islands with castles on it.
Enid Blytons books inspired my imagination much much more than other books (even Astrid Lindgren or Arthur Ransome or Nesbitt) did.
