Philip Pullman's trilogy is a spectacular achievement, and you only have to look at the hundreds of reviews around the Internet to get a flavour of the positive feeling towards these stories. From my point of view, they are probably the best stories I have ever read, and fill your mind with the most amazing pictures, the most intense emotions and the most spectacular twists and turns you are ever likely to come across.

This edition is a three-in-one hard back, which could easily sit ... Read More:

I can't recall reading a so-called 'classic' which is as bad as this. Probably the best bit is before the main narrative, where he's talking about his time at the custom house, though this is also quite boring, but it lacks the prominent faults of the main narrative: childishly simple psychology and symbolism, unwarranted melodrama, EVERYTHING! HAVING! TO! BE! FOLLOWED! BY! AN! EXCLAMATION! MARK!, Hawthorne continually 'telling' rather than 'showing' (see Creative Writing 101), his complete lack ... Read More:

This book is a treasure. What a pity that it doesn't cover all the plays. But the ones it does handle are covered superbly. An entire play is described in 10-12 pages, as if they were meant to be retold that way. What happens in The Tempest? What is the story of Midsummer Night's Dream? What is Much Ado About Nothing all about?
All these questions are answered in this book, quickly. This is like getting a classical education in a couple of hours! Shakespeare buffs will no doubt hate it, but anyone ... Read More:

I liked charlie and the chocolate factory a lot.I liked it because they were poor and charlie got a golden ticket. And that meant that Charlie could get all the chocolate and sweets that he wanted and, he could bring it home. My favorite part was when Veruca fell down the rubbish hole. There was more good parts as well, it was not the only one.

Great book, no complantes

by: Laura Ingalls Wilder

May 07, 1992
In this book, Laura and her family are travelling to live in Minnesota. To buy a lovely dig out and crops, Pa sells the horses to the landowner and he later on buys some new ones. Later in the story, Pa builds a great wooden house for the family to live in. During this story, the two girls start school again and there they meet horrible, mean and haughty Nellie Oleson who laughs at the "country girls" though they have to nice friends. The family are devastated when their crops are eaten and ruined by grass hoppers, and ... Read More:

This book is very 'American'! By that I mean that it is one of the great classics of American literature, and has all the hallmarks therein, albeit with a twist. The key to understanding the foundations of American literature is man's great battle with nature and the wilderness, in which he forges a place for himself, a foothold for civilisation and becomes even more of a man than before. It is a theme that crops up everywhere from Moby Dick to Last of the Mohicans and beyond. Unfortunately it doesn't really do it for ... Read More:

Awesome book, simply awesome to the max. The kind of book that's so thrilling, you can't help but jump in the air and exclaim your glee with extreme volume every other page - indeed, I was thrown off the train for that very reason. I finished reading the book at the station in a feast of jumping and yelling, and I regret nothing.

Can't wait for the sequel!

by: Louisa M. Alcott

August 01, 1993
You don't have to be a girl to enjoy this masterpiece. The innocence in the tale is heartwarming, interwined with 19th century romance, with little homilies here and there, it is incomparable. The emotion that Alcott put into the story is obvious and this makes the book really shine.
