I dont read books much, but then when i went to the library the librarian pointed this book out to me, so i took it home and started reading. I loved the first half of it, where Arthur Hobhouse's life story is told,he is evacuated to austrailia with his lucky key given to him by his sister Kitty, where he lives the rest of his life. This is a great story, again Charlie Hidson has us on the egde of our seats.
The story has a very similair theme to the Young James bond book Hurricane Gold. In Skeleton Key Alex Rider and Hurricane Gold Young James Bond, both teen hereos are on a hot tropical island owned by a villian, both villians want to adopt the young teen heros, despite the youngsters trying to spoil there plans. ...which is that even though the Cherub agents have been through tough training and the book is always saying how important they are and how dangerous their life is, they never actually DO any of the hard stuff in the missions. All the Cherub agents can do is break into a house a photocopy stuff, then make it look like the break-in was 'only kids messing around'. Then they get out of the way and let the adults and the police finish off the mission. It might be realistic but it's lame.

This trilogy is excellent. Took me a while to get into book one but once the story really got going I couldn't put it down. Lyra grows into a young adult throughout the trilogy and its wonderful to follow her through her trials and tribulations.

Armoured bears, witches, deamons, god, angels, heaven and hell-all and more are wonderfully thoguht up by Pullman and I recommend these to anyone.

My 7 year old son loves audio books and we have lots! He likes King Arthur tales but they can often be quite difficult to read and understand. However this is read brilliantly and we have both been gripped. Admittedly I have quite often had to pause it and explain parts but it is read in chapters which gives you convenient places to recap. We have listened travelling to and from school and for 3 nights we sat in the car on the drive listening to see what happens.
