I picked this book up to read as part of a Book Chain I was doing as an illustration for pupils in a P4-7 Class(Scotland) and enjoyed this very much. The pace of the story is fast and there are wonderful fact boxes and photographs of space phenomena like comets, planets and all sorts of spacey things! There's also a great Poster of the Solar System. What a novel way to introduce learning about Space!

What a versatile book, one which the primary bookshelf should not be without. The life story of a boy is told through the view through his window and follows the changes to his surroundings. Having no text the book is accessible to all age groups and abilities, offering plenty of scope for discussion and inspiration in literacy, PHSE, geography and art work.
The pictures are interesting in their media as well as content and they almost leap out of the page at you!! Everytime I 'read' this book ... Read More:

An excellent little book that helped my then 3yr old understand what had happened. The notion of a 'soul' is touched on but not dwelt on. Mainly the book helped open up lines of communication and allow the discussion of a difficult theme, at a very difficult time. Very useful pre-funeral as it has clear drawings of coffins, pallbearers etc. so I could try to prepare her a little for the day itself as well as it helping to prompt discussion of the day afterwards. The fact that different cultures have various ... Read More:

Girls in Tears is the fourth (and hopefully not final) installment of Jacqueline Wilson's 'Girls' series and again focuses its attention on the lives, loves and laughs of best-pal trio, Ellie, Magda and Nadine.
In this latest installment, things are not going very swimmingly for our favourite lasses. Ellie's boyfriend Russell is being a pain in the behind, Nadine is acting like a careless air-head, Magda is upset over the death of her hamster, and Ellie's dad and step mum are at logger heads. While the ... Read More:

I got this book for my daughter and it made her aware but comfortable about the facts of life. She felt open about talking about what she read and was ready to discuss topics mentioned in the book. Very child friendly without being frightening.

This book had a good title but was weak on the inside - it could have been fun, cute, more informative &/or exciting but was not, I & my 2 year old son thought the same.

It was amarican ('diapers' & 'Mom')in case English was required.

Olly, her brother Matt & Hero are the star cast of this story which neatly & sensitively draws childrens attention to the war victims of Africa & the on-going problem of landmines.

Well written & easy to read. Provides a good platform for developing readers to expand from.

3 stars probably not enough ... just not enough options to choose.

Enjoy reading.

I am surprised at a reviewer finding this too explicit as I looked long and hard at many books on this subject and this was the only one with enough detail to explain yet not so much to scare a child. Somebody who finds this too explicit may simply not be ready to cover this subject with their child.
