The Longest Day [1962]

directed by: Ken Annakin, Andrew Marton, Bernhard Wicki, Darryl F. Zanuck

Still a classic after all these years. Cornelius Ryan wrote two great books about single actions - The Longest Day and A bridge Too Far - both based on the extensive research involving many of the real people who appeared in the movie. In the Longest Day there is the additional plus that Richard Todd who plays Major Howard in the assault on what became known as Pegasus Bridge was actually Howard's second in command in the real assault.

It's star studded and full of little cameos but perhaps the ... Read More:

Hatari [1963]

directed by: Howard Hawks

Hatari is one of the best movies about the wild life in Africa. I saw it in the cinema in 1963. Now I have it on DVD, and we see it sometimes.
Great pctures. I like the start of the film, where they spot the rhino in the distance. It is a fantastic start.

The Poseidon Adventure [1972]

starring: Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, Roddy McDowall
directed by: Ronald Neame

June 30, 2003
The original The Poseidon Adventure isn't exactly a film so good that it couldn't stand remaking. The first half hour before the wave hits is like a very badly written episode of The Love Boat, with painfully on the nose dialog ("What kind of priest are you?" "I'm a renegade! The very best kind!") and hideously stereotyped characters. In fact, truth to tell, it's a pretty pedestrian affair even after the ship goes bottom up: strip away its high concept and all you're really left with is a long, slow wade to the grave for some of ... I'm relieved to see from my fellow reviewers that's I'm not the only person who rates this life-changing movie among the best ever made. How many films work so effectively as both a superficial (and historical) drama with award-winning acting, and an existential allegory that punches home the hopelessness of the human spirit, raging against the going out of the light as it is flung screaming into a pitiless oblivion?

I have never met anyone with whom I can share the quiet satisfaction I felt as the meaning of the film slowly dawned ... Read More:

directed by: Abe Levitow

The story is very simple but funny and the characters are all very nice and well drawn... A nice country kitty decides she wants to see the big city and leaves behind her tom-friend and his little friend Robespierre. Being very naive she falls in a bad company and her country boyfriend will have to rescue her. The songs are good and the voices of the actors a perfect choice for each cat. You will like it... it is sweet and romantic and both children and grwon up will love it.
