starring: Nigel Davenport, Susan Hampshire, Geoffrey Keen, Peter Lukoye, Shane De Louvre
directed by: Jack Couffer

Along with Lassie Come Home, Born Free is probably the gold standard of animal movies in terms, and there's a lotto like in this story of Joy Adamson and her gamekeeper husband trying to return the domesticated lioness Elsa to the wild: the lion cubs are cute, the Scope wildlife photography still impressive and John Barry's score especially beautiful (the famous Matt Munro song was added to the end titles after the film was already on release. Where it shows its age is when the humans take centre ... Read More:

directed by: Hayao Miyazaki

February 27, 2006
Hayao Miyazaki animated feature of a 13-old year witch leaving his parents and settling in a new town to form a (broom-based) delivery service is irresistible. As in many of his movies, the protagonist here is a plucky heroine defying all odds. What I found most enjoyable about the movie - though - is its background details. Miyazaki loves European culture - and the movie is set in never land Europe - a fantasy Europe that never existed. A lot of the clothes and the technology suggests the 1950s and ... Read More:

What a wonderful, classic film! It is still hilarious and at times, very moving, even after all these years! It makes me laugh and cry.

I think most new parents know how having a baby totally transforms your life! This is certainly the case in this film! The three men put aside their ambitions and selfishness to care for Mary, who is an absolutely gorgeous baby! I don't know which part is more heart wrenching though, when the baby leaves later on or the fact that she was left by her mother in the first ... Read More:

I resisted going to see this film at the cinema as it didn't seem like my cup of tea. But after a colleague kept going on about how great it was, I gave in and watched it. I wish I hadn't bothered. I really cannot see what all the fuss is about. Now, if you've read any other DVD reviews of mine, you'll know I do like superhero films, sci-fi films etc. But Transformers really left me cold. It didn't keep my interest at all, but I had to watch it through to the end just to see if it got better. I'm afraid it didn't.

I really liked this film. I am a huge fan of Hilary Duff and I've never had a singal movie which I think she is bad in!
I found this movie quite emotional and sad, but then everything turned right. It is about a girl (Duff), whose dad died in a earthquarke and she ended up living with her mean stepmother and horrible sisters. She works hard and obeys her stepmums orders, until one day she can't take it any longer and puts her foot down! You have to see it. iT'S COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ... Read More:

I was watching a different film on the long flight back from New Zealand but could see EIGHT BELOW on the screen of the man sitting in the row infront of me. I kept being distracted from my film and found myself squinting between the seats and watching the beautiful Huskies and the fantasic scenery on the screen infront, even without sound it looked a fantastic film so when the man finished watching it, I asked him what it was. I then searched for it on my screen, found it and sat spellbound watching it. It's full of hardship, hope and triumph over adversity, one of those sad but happy films ... Read More:

Seabiscuit [2003]

starring: Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper, William H. Macy, Elizabeth Banks
directed by: Gary Ross

February 23, 2004
Seabiscuit is a beautiful and heartwarming film if ever there was one- and uplifting at the same time. A true story, Seabiscuit rose to fame during the Great American Depression, along with 3 extraordinary men- the "too-tall" jockey Red (Johnny) Pollard, owner Charles Howard and gifted horse-trainer Tom Smith. Seabiscuit was an unimpressive horse, with legs that didn't run straight all the way down. Beaten and broken, and with only 1 win from his first 17 runs, he was bought by C. S Howard for the rock-bottom price of $8000. Howard was looking for a distraction following the death of his young son, ... Read More:
