This stuff is interesting but its not up to the standard of the original 3 volumes. 1-3 had numerous brand new tracks; but here we get just 3 or 4 decent new songs sandwiched between some unsatisfactory preliminary versions, random live tracks numerous work-in-progress recordings.

When I first heard 'Mercy' I didn't like it because I thought the background riff sounded too much like the one from 'Stand By Me' and, for me, it didn't quite work. Also, it is too easy to compare the latest female singing sensation to Dusty Springfield or Amy W which isn't fair on anyone concerned. Then I heard 'Warwick Avenue' and my interest was piqued (I had just split up with someone who lived in that part of London). Still I was waiting for something more.

A little disappointing after the commercial and audience friendly X & Y. Yes this is meant to be far more clever and experimental musically but many of the lyrics make little sense but over-reach themselves in scope. Similarly musically this album does the same, at times at the expense of melody. It's all just a little too Bruce Hornsby meets Joshua Tree in places -- both fine in themselves but a dated stab at reinvention now. I wasn't sure whether i would like this album as i bought it without even hearing a single song off it, the cover did it for me, i don't know why but it's just a beautiful image and i imagined that any music contained within would be just as good. The music fits that image well. Out of the whole album there is only one song i'm not too keen on but it's certainly not a bad song, the rest i loved on the first listen through and that's a very rare thing for me. First off, i'm not commenting on this as a re-release or whatever, as it is the only Rihanna cd i own. I'd never delved into Rihanna (metaphorically or physically) until Umbrella caught my attention - it is an absolute cracker! I love the 1st CD and this one has a wide variety kind of music so it is even better. I like them more than Il Divo now. Teir voice bland so well and they are unpretentious, not trying to be operatic. Love it!

i cant believe i hear this album now! having recently bought the brilliant Leaders Of The Free World I wanted to discover Elbow. Then I listened to Cast Of Thousands next which i included in my top 10 album list. but then I listened to this album and I was totally knocked off my feet!
