The key with children's lullaby music is that it can bear constant repetition - night after night! We have been using this since a friend sent it to us getting on for ten years ago. I still like it - and the choice of hearing it with or without lyrics is also useful. It sends me to sleep, never mind the children ...

This is the 4th Cd I've bought for baby - and about time I got one this appropriate. Fantastically normal - not folky, operatic or weirdly modern - sung by normal voices with a bit of character for each song. Listened to it loads already and still not annoyed in the slightest.

There's good news and there's good news. After 10 minutes of track 1, Lullaby, my one-month-old was fast asleep. As it played on, she continued to rest peacefully at a time when she would normally have been one alert little munchkin.

Grainger's piano music is notoriously difficult, and it's also fairly uneven, so a complete survey is bound to have its highs and lows. Martin Jones does make a few obvious fluffs, but these are easy to overlook, given the great musicality of these performances. The sound quality is good, though some may find the tone a little too mellow and the acoustic a little too spacious for their tastes.
