Some parts are Traditional African music, others are the classics everyone knows so well ( Circle of Life, Can you feel the love tonight, Hakuna Matata etc...). There are songs from both the original film, and the newer 'Simba's Pride'. Some don't seem to come from either, yet still manage to fit effortlessly into the CD. Poulenc: Les Mamelles de Tirésias/Le Bal Masqué Best Selling > Music > Ages 3-4 from: Philips Classics September 01, 1998 This is still a wonderful performance, and the Seito Kinen Orchestra are their usual romantic selves, which is excellent... but the authenticity of the Poulenc/Duval sound is very hard to reproduce. It's still hard-hitting though - the vulgarity used as a veritable weapon, and yet the romantic empathy oozing off the page so touching it's hard to imagine anything more like falling in love again... Poulenc - Babar the Elephant/Ravel - Mother Goose Suite Best Selling > Music > Ages 3-4 from: Koch December 01, 1997 Bought this because of the CONCERTO FOR TWO PIANOS and ended up loving that and the "L'Histoire du Babar" which is a take-off on Stravinsky's "L'Histoire du Soldat." I'd not heard of this piece but loved it. The MOTHER GOOSE SUITE is also excellent. Would also highly recommend the Munch recording of BOLERO if you can find it--extremely well done and lasts the exact seventeen minutes. |
